Every once in a while I totally FREAK OUT! OK, possibly more than once in a while. Usually, there is a reason. I am not a fan of random drama, but a good old fashioned stress induced meltdown is totally acceptable. I feel one coming on. My life is chaos. Everything is moving in the opposite direction – not good, not bad, just not what I expected. I have great work, but lots of responsibility; good friends, but not enough time to enjoy them; and fabulous kids, but am too frantic to be much fun. All that makes today’s revelation too much to bear.

A major, national roll-out of a fabulous product with global name recognition attached and major PR players involved has no Twitter account. Not even a stand-by account so no one steals the name. The big huge name that people are going to now tweet about. It’s like inventing a product and not trademarking it. Or building a hospital without ambulance parking. Or, or, or…I am at a loss for more ridiculous comparisons.

OK, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I am not a social media only gal.

I am irritated by the social media gurus who promise the world in 5 tweets a day. I like press releases. I like building media lists from scratch in an excel spreadsheet. I like using my telephone to talk. Everything old about PR is good. (Well, maybe not the bad PR.) I do love technology, but I can also take it or leave it most of the time.

Except today!

People! If you do anything there has to be a social media component.

It might be the tiniest of tweets or the flimsiest of Facebook posts but all marketing communications people have to understand and use social media. You’re shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t. And if I find out about it, I’m going to shoot you in the foot. I cannot tell you how many times I am looking for something and I search Twitter or Facebook first. I am not the only one. There are about a billion people (give or take a few) consuming social media. You’re nowhere if they can not find you.

Need help with your social media? Call me. Tomorrow, please. I’m busy having a melt-down today. ~ Jules
